The National Underground Railroad Freedom Center will honor singer and civil rights activist Mavis Staples with one of its most significant awards later this month.

The center will present Staples with the Everyday Freedom Hero Award during a reception April 20 at Memorial Hall prior to her performance, An Evening with Mavis Staples.

Tickets are still available for $55 each for the 8 p.m. show. The reception is open to concert ticketholders. Staples will receive her award at 6:45 p.m.
